On the Other Hand

You wear the watch on one wrist
and there it made its mark —
a long white strip that travelled round
along your sunburned arm.

(Unfasten the lock,
Remove the watch,
Slide off the right,
And into the left.)

A challenge to change
and try something different —
it lasted hardly a minute,
your resolve not found in it.

(Unfasten the lock,
Remove the watch,
Slide off the left,
And into the right.)

Then you explained,
you remembered,
each arm
had their duties divided.

The right,
for the watch.
The left,
for defense.

The change
did not last but,
you’ve recognized

The importance of
the routine
you practice
everyday.
